What we do if we get a Spam Phone Call*

Our best course of action with phone scams is to ALWAYS simply HANG UP THE PHONE. DidYouReboot will never call you without you submitting a ticket first.  The IRS will never call you saying you owe them money and are going to arrest you(They will send letters via certified mail). Microsoft is not monitoring your computer and will also never call you.

  • If we ever have any questions on if it was a legitimate call - We hang up the phone, Look up the number of the service they claimed to be, and call that number directly.

  • We don't dial the number they provide or the caller ID they show.

  • If they say they charged my credit card - we pull out our credit card and dial the number on the back of our Credit Card and ask them if they see the charge.

  • If they say they are from my bank, we look at the back of my debit card and call them or simply drive to my nearest branch and ask them to help me.

  • We Never Never Never get cash out of our bank or buy gift cards based on a phone call

If you are not sure that the call you received was a Scam - Text us at 619-473-2668 for a one-time free response on we believe it was a Spam call.  Be sure to include as much detail as possible on who they stated they were and what they were telling you.  You can always call them back if it was legitimate.

Also, there is a YouTube Channel that explains how these Scammers operate and what they are doing to stop them.  https://www.youtube.com/c/ScammerPayback

Types of Spam Emails*

Below is a quick list of different types of email scams.  As a member of DidYouReboot's subscription service, we will teach you how to implement your own security so you will finally be able to have peace of mind.  And we will continue to inform you and help you protect yourself as the landscape continues to change and new vulnerabilities emerge

Email Scam

There are many Email Scams but a "Phishing Scam" is the most common and usually not an indication of a Hack but can easily switch to a legitimate hack if you open an attachment so you must be careful.   Typically, You get an email from your own address.  It states that they have access to all your data and have been watching you do all sorts of things on your computer.  They then ask you to purchase Bitcoin or Gift Cards to pay them so you don't release it to your loved ones. This is a scam and you should have DidYouReboot do a full analysis of your computer to ensure you are secured and your passwords have not been compromised

Email Virus and Ransomware

Opening attachments from your email has an inherent risk because there are ways to send files that can execute programs that run on your computer.  This will make your files inaccessible and potentially lost forever.  This is a situation where you would need to have the proper settings in advance to ensure you can recover. We will implement low-cost and secure solutions using applications you may already be paying for.

Email Password Compromised

One that would require the attention of a trained professional - You lose access to your own email or you find that people that you have emailed in the past are getting emails from you asking for money or assistance of some kind.  Even worse - They can begin resetting your bank passwords, social media accounts, etc. Locking you out of everything you store online.  We can help you recover but there are no guarantees.  It is better to make sure you are set up properly before there is an issue.

Takeaways

There are numerous ways your data can be lost or compromised.  Phone, Text, Email, USB Drive, CD, Website, and the list goes on and on.  We simply cannot provide you a guide on how to do this yourself.  This is why you need a trained professional at your disposal to ensure that you never have the problem and are able to recover in the event something bad happens to your data.  The unfortunate part is that most will not pay attention to the risks until it is too late.
